GLOVIA international’s ERP Solution earns Industryweek’s 1998 technology of the year award
Global provider of enterprise resource planning solutions recognized for unique Seiban Workbench application
Los Angeles, CA. - December 17, 1998 - GLOVIA International, Inc., a joint venture between Fujitsu and MDIS, today announced the GLOVIA Seiban Workbench has been chosen for a 1998 Technology of the Year Award from IndustryWeek magazine. Each year, IndustryWeek’s Technology and Innovation Awards are conferred in two categories, Technology Leader of the Year and Technologies of the Year. All technologies are eligible for consideration and awards are presented to those companies with an innovative new product that represents a significant achievement in technology and development. Past recipients of the award include Microsoft Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc., and Intel Corp.
The GLOVIA Seiban Workbench is built into the GLOVIA 4.0 enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Seiban, which means "work number" in Japanese, is an Eastern manufacturing technique that is widely used in Japan but is just now gaining recognition in the West. Seiban allows a manufacturer to predict, manage and track how a customer's order needs to progress throughout the entire manufacturing process and to move materials and services throughout the plant or various plants based on the order. The GLOVIA Seiban Workbench assigns a single work number to a customer order which is then shared by all associated work orders, product orders, purchase orders, materials, machinery, and processes required to complete that order. GLOVIA International is the only ERP software provider to build fully functional Seiban capabilities into their system.
"Our close ties to Fujitsu provided the GLOVIA International development team with access to a depth of Asian manufacturing knowledge and expertise," said Bill Engel, president of GLOVIA International LCC . "We recognized early on that the Seiban manufacturing style would become a valuable component of the modern manufacturing environment and so we incorporated it as a fully functional module within the GLOVIA 4.0 ERP system."
The GLOVIA Seiban Workbench allows a manufacturer to track all related costs for his customer, making current order status and time-to-delivery information available on a real-time basis. Since all items associated with a customer’s order are fully integrated with a common Seiban work number, the manufacturer can easily assess the impact of changes at any level of the process, predict inventory shortages and divert resources to a particular point in the manufacturing chain when necessary.
