Project Management Interface
As software industry capabilities advance, glovia G2 tools allow you to take advantage of them
glovia G2 Project Management Interface (PMI) lets you take advantage of Microsoft® Project features in order to develop and analyze project plans, present results in a graphical format and communicate more effectively throughout your organization. glovia G2 provides an interface to Microsoft Project and serves as a gateway to other project management applications such as Primavera®.
Access Microsoft Project Capabilities
Project Management Interface gives you direct access to Microsoft Project scheduling tools. PMI controls the transfer of information between both systems and provides extensive checks to maintain consistency when importing and exporting data.
Through PMI you can import project files from the project management system into glovia G2 and export project definitions from glovia G2 back into your project management system. The PMI interface allows Microsoft Project and glovia G2 Project Definition to work together in a variety of ways to enrich your project management capabilities. glovia G2 lets you import resource schedules and reconcile task start/end dates with material due dates planned in glovia G2.
Combining Forces
Project Management Interface lets you take advantage of Microsoft Project tools at many stages of your project. After the project has been created, you can review schedules and resource loads and adjust them as necessary to meet your delivery targets. You can also specify a baseline project schedule for measuring performance against that baseline throughout the life of the project.
Reference Microsoft Project
PMI makes direct use of Microsoft Project fields and allows you to import and reference data directly from glovia G2. As Microsoft enhances project management functionality, glovia G2 is positioned to improve system processes and take advantage of those enhancements. For example, changes to the .mpx file format enables glovia G2 to move to simple open database connectivity (ODBC) use for import and export. As benefits are realized by minimizing manual intervention, glovia G2 will provide for additional fields to be incorporated into the data transfer including resources and the skills of each resource as applied to a specific project task.
Remote Access and Gateways
When you do not have a direct link between the project site and glovia G2, you can use the Microsoft Project files to update your project in glovia G2. You can also use PMI as a gateway to other project management software such as Primavera Project Planner®.
Integrated Microsoft Project Functionality
- Manage resource allocation, leveling, and usage
- Compare several versions of a project and create baseline project schedules
- Conduct "critical path" analysis
- Export project status and display in Microsoft Project
Microsoft Project Import / Export
- Imports and exports using .mpx format
- Allows you to toggle between export-only and import-only
- Provides visibility of all fields imported from Microsoft Project
-
Imports and exports using ODBC format
- Is positioned to import additional functionality from Microsoft Project to maximize consistency and minimize inefficiency
Primavera® Engineering & Construction Import/Export
- Using Primavera SDK
Import Consistency Checking (verification)
PMI changes the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) when:
- A task is added
- A task is deleted
- The relationship between hierarchical tasks is changed
PMI manages changes to the WBS by:
- Generating a warning
- Forcing user approval
- Automatically increasing the revision level of the project
PMI rejects changes to the WBS when the current project definition includes:
- A task reference that is linked to a demand or supply line item
- A task reference for which project costs are incurred and reported to glovia G2 Project Accounting
